PROTON THERAPY & PARTICLE THERAPY
About proton therapy: what patients should know
Proton therapy is a form of external-beam radiotherapy. Its main advantage is physical: in selected cases, treatment can reduce the dose delivered to healthy tissues. It is not automatically better for every cancer or every patient.

PATIENT GUIDE
Why protons may matter
01
Dose distribution
Protons can reduce exit dose beyond the target in selected treatment plans.
02
Clinical benefit varies
A better dose distribution does not automatically mean better tumour control for every diagnosis.
03
Individual review
A radiation oncologist must assess diagnosis, anatomy and previous treatment.
NEXT STEP
Request an evaluation before travelling
Send the available medical records and imaging. The treating centre decides whether proton therapy is indicated and technically feasible.
