PROTON THERAPY & PARTICLE THERAPY
What is proton therapy and how does it work?
Proton therapy uses accelerated protons rather than X-rays to deliver radiotherapy. The goal is still to treat the target effectively while limiting unnecessary dose to nearby healthy tissues.

HOW IT WORKS
The Bragg peak in plain language
Protons deposit energy differently from photons. Treatment planning uses that property to shape the dose around the target. Healthy tissue is not completely spared, and side effects remain possible.
TREATMENT
From simulation to daily sessions
01
Simulation
Imaging and immobilisation are used to reproduce the treatment position.
02
Planning
The target and organs at risk are defined and the plan is checked by the clinical physics team.
03
Delivery
The beam itself is not felt; accurate positioning is essential.
